Course Lectures and Laboratory Exercises:
- Introduction to Molecular Biology (DNA, PCR, DNA Sequencing)
- Phenotypic vs. Genotypic Methods
- Colony selection, DNA extraction, PCR, Cycle Sequencing
- Instrument set-up, operation and maintenance
- System software setup (Data Collection, AB Navigator)

Course Content: During this 3.5 day hands-on laboratory course, the student will be trained on the entire MicroSEQ® Microbial Identification System workflow from sample preparation through data analysis and interpretation. This is an interactive course that combines lectures, laboratory exercises and practical data analysis exercises to provide the new user with the foundations needed to successfully use the MicroSEQ Microbial Identification System in their laboratory. The laboratory exercises will utilize the MicroSEQ® 500 16s rDNA Bacterial Identification Kit along with the PrepMan® Ultra DNA Extraction Kit, 9800 Thermal Cycler, and the Applied Biosystems 3130XL Genetic Analyzer. Instrument operation and maintenance will be emphasized throughout the class. The student will learn standard procedure of data analysis and gain practical analysis experience through extensive MicroSEQ® ID usage on example projects and samples run during the course. In addition, topics on custom libraries, BLAST, Custom Reports and Phylogenetic Trees will be presented and discussed.
The training course fees includes all course materials, laboratory supplies, 4 nights accommodation at a designated hotel near the training facility, continental breakfast, lunch and snacks during each day. Participants receive training materials and a Certificate of Completion at the conclusion of the course.
